Get on trend for Autumn/Winter 2010: Eyes and Lips
1 Comment · Posted by Abi Redecen in Cosmetics, Fashion, Make-up
Autumn is nearly upon us, and with only a couple of weeks to go, now is the right time to pin down exactly what trends are right for you. If you have a Representative now would be the perfect time to get in touch. They have their fingers on the pulse of all things beauty related and will be happy to advise you on the very latest beauty trends and offers.
Despite the horrible weather, fear not, as the trends for autumn are something to smile about at least, and I'll give you a quick rundown on the top shades for the lips and eyes, both of which have been all over the catwalk recently.
With the lips, these are the main feature for the season and it's all about colour. The beauty press has been awash with matte red, with the likes of Chanel leading the way in the style stakes, and this isn't going anywhere.
If you're a fan of the edgy look, then the newly-added shades are for you – raspberry or blackberry lips, check out Avon's Ultra Colour Rich Mega Impact Lipstick and Avon's Pro Colour and Gloss Lip Duo, his is such a clever little lippy and offers 3 looks in 1, a creamy lipstick with a high gloss core. Oh and definitely take a peek at Scarlett Johansson's recent D&G advertisement.
I asked celebrity makeup artist, Jackie Tyson what her top lip tips were for this Autumn/Winter!
1. The change in weather can play havoc with your lips so regularly apply lip balm to keep them supple.
2. Rough skin on your lips can be buffed off with some lip balm on a soft baby toothbrush.
3. A/W make up is all about the lips. They should be bright and the main focus with a soft smokey eye.
4. Try Avon Pro Colour & Gloss Lip Duo in Berry Luscious, Poppy Love or Passion Plum to be bang on trend.
5. Go from day to night with Pro Colour & Gloss Lip Duo by using the lipstick during the day and load on the gloss as you head out in the evening.
Thanks again Jackie!
I must say, I breathed a sigh of relief when I heard that the smoky eye is also staying put, so for those of us who have just managed to master this timeless look, this is the season to show what we can do.
Brown is the new black, and it's all about creating sultry and sexy eyes – and for this you'll need Avon Colour In A Blink Eye Shadow and Liner which is an absolute godsend, just team with black liquid liner, lashings of mascara and blend as you see fit.
Or if you're enjoying the abundance of colour that autumn brings – it's time to get excited and go all out with tawny reds, olive greens and mellow yellows.
Check out Avon True Colour Eyeshadow Duo in Fresh Jade to get your peepers to that show-stopping standard.
What shades will you choose this season?

Autumn/winter rundown: Hair trends
1 Comment · Posted by Abi Redecen in Uncategorized
If all you fashionistas are beginning to fret about how on earth you're going to get yourself on trend and ready for autumn and winter, panic not, I have all the advice you need!
Next season is a simple one, but unfortunately ladies, it is all geared towards those who are stuck with long locks, so for those of you who bit the bullet and went for the summer crop, you're out of luck for autumn/winter.
The top trends for 'fall', as they call it on the other side of the pond, are based around curls (every variation you can think of), the simple ponytail and basically, volume, volume, volume, oh and the fringe, that one is a red carpet hit for sure.
We'll start with curls, and every beauty provider and expert is literally raving about how curls are all over the catwalk and the red carpet.
Those of you who have yet to combat the frizz are in luck check out Advance Techniques Frizz Control Instant Recharge Treatment as loose curls are on trend, big voluminous curls are hot and, come to think of it, so are totally messy curls.
Check out how you can create gorgeous curls using the latest Advance Techniques products…
What more can I say about this trend? Other than if you fancy more definition take a look at Advance Techniques Curl Control Curl Defining Gel other than that you're good to go.
The ponytail is another big hit, so hair needs to be sleek, healthy and pinned up in a bobble high up on the head and a section wrapped around the bobble to hide it from show, the same premise goes for the blunt fringe – not much can be said about it, but check out Kim Kardashian or Katy Perry for inspiration.
That's it for the trends really, but one thing that you ladies should keep in mind – is all that backcombing, tonging and curling is bound to leave your hair gasping for breath, so invest in a few key protection products so you can keep coming back for more.
This is my secret weapon: Advance Techniques Damage Repair 5-Day Rescue Treatment.
REMEMBER if you have a Representative it's always best to buy from them. Our Avon Representatives are very knowledgeable about Avon products and can help you choose the right ones to suit you -- plus you get that personal service!
Happy styling!

Fashion and Makeup Trends to ‘Fall’ For
2 Comments · Posted by Alexandra Lecoq in Make-up
Although the sun is shining in London today, we’re starting to feel the days getting shorter and the rain clouds visiting more regularly. The autumn weather may not be the most desirable aspect of the coming season, but there’s at least one thing that can (and always does) brighten our moods – the autumn/winter fashion and make-up trends!
Next season brings plaid skirts, military cuts, fur lining, under the knee skirts and low heels in fashion. Many of the A/W 2010 runway models accompanied their looks with a fresh face of make-up reminiscent of the S/S look. Where typically we’ve seen dark and defined in winter, it seems the soft ‘ballerina’ look is going to be a big one this season.
And we’ve got a few products on offer to help achieve it:
1) The shiny, pouty lip
Pinks, plums and nudes are the colours, shiny and healthy are the textures – keep your lips looking natural, hydrated and luscious this season, and Avon’s Pro Colour & Gloss Duo is the perfect edition to your handbag essentials list.

2) Anew clinical eye lift & thermafirm face lifting cream
Don’t panic! Just because nude and natural is the look, doesn’t mean you won’t achieve the perfect complexion without layers of foundation. Our fabulous Anew eye and face lifting creams help to minimise lines and leave skin looking young and vibrant – the beauty is there already, bring it out by incorporating these into your daily skin routines.

3) SuperMagnify Mascara
Mascara is, 9 times out of 10, the one “can’t leave home without it” makeup necessity. And in keeping with the soft look of A/W 2010, it’s the most important part of your day-to-day eye makeup that we suggest you hold onto. We suggest our SuperMagnify Mascara – affordable enough to use daily, but effective enough for all occasions.

So there you have it – 3 make-up essentials for A/W 2010… Colder and shorter days, what?

Festivals must have products from head to toes
No comments · Posted by Alexandra Lecoq in Bath & Body, Events, Fashion, Haircare, Make-up, Skincare
Summer is unfortunately soon coming to an end but this doesn’t mean the Festival Season is over – there are still plenty to choose from for a fabulous weekend getaway with friends!
However, when going to a festival, there are always a couple of things we ladies are concerned about… mainly, what clothes should I pack? Do I need to prepare for sunny or muddy days? And most prominently, what products should I pack to keep my shower-fresh feeling lasting as long as possible?
We all enjoy a bit of grunge time at festivals, but working at Avon has kept us in the loop with this year’s festival-fresh must have products. For a bit of Festival glam, style and freshness, we’ve got the perfect picks from head to toe
1. For fabulous looking frizz-free hair that can last even 2 days after your last wash, try our brand new (and big hit!) Avon Lotus Shield.
2. Never leave home (or your tent) without a bit of eyeliner – use our Supershock Gel Eyeliner Pencil for bold, intense colour that will last for hours.
Keep lips plumped and shiny with the Pro 3-in-1 Lip Wand. All that singing in the crowd won’t go unnoticed now!
3. To top off your festival fashion, indulge yourself in a fabulous, bold and chunky Alisha bracelet, with decorative raised dots reminiscent of the season’s tribal trend.
4. Keep your legs smooth and moisturised with our Skin So Soft Original Dry Oil Body Spray.
5. Who would have thought standing all day could lead to such aching feet? To avoid sore and damaged feet on the journey home, try our Foot Works Cherry Ice Cooling Foot Spray. It’s a miracle cure!
If you’re looking for further inspiration, don’t forget to visit our website, particularly our Festival Glam, Festival Fresh and Festival Fashion sections! Have fun!

Behind the scenes at ‘festival look’ shoot
No comments · Posted by Abi Redecen in Cosmetics, Fashion, Haircare
Hi, I'm Leynah Woolley and I work in Public Relations at Avon. I'm really lucky that part of my job means I get to spend time with some very interesting people, like Jackie Tyson our Celebrity Make-up Artist and Anthony Barrow, our haircare expert. Recently we made some videos to show everyone how they can get the most out of the new product Advanced Techniques Lotus Shield and how to create the perfect Festival Look.
I loved making the festival ‘get the look’ video, which you may have seen on an earlier blog post. I’ve filmed lots of videos with Jackie over the last year and am always amazed at how much I learn each time … I could listen to her talk make-up all day.
Anthony Barrow came over from New York to help us spread the word about Advance Techniques Lotus Shield so us PR girls thought it’d be great to introduce him to Jackie and get them to film a festival look together. We’re really pleased with the results.
It was a really fun video to film which I think you can see from all the giggling we’re all doing in the ‘behind the scenes’ footage!
I really thought our gorgeous model Charli’s eye make-up was amazing, so I felt like the luckiest girl in the world when Jackie asked if I wanted mine done too! Of course I said yes. Thank you Jackie, I had sooooo many compliments from my friends when I went out that night and it felt great to tell them that Avon’s celebrity make-up artist did my make-up!

Top Tip on how to apply Lotus Shield
Shake well before use and then apply a ½ teaspoon or pea sized amount of product to clean, damp hair and distribute hair. For longer hair, increase product amount gradually until you experience the desired results. Style as usual with your favourite styling products. Suitable for all hair types.
Order Lotus Shield from your local Representative or buy now.

Get the festival look
No comments · Posted by Abi Redecen in Cosmetics, Events, Fashion, Haircare, Holidays
Hi, for those of you who don't know me, I'm Jackie Tyson, Avon's celebrity makeup artist. I wanted to drop you a line and tell you how much I love the festival season and this one has been the hottest in living memory (apart from the little bit of rain in Scotland at T in the Park – sorry, Scotland!). So when Avon asked me to create a festival look using some of their great products I was thrilled!
I thoroughly enjoyed working on our festival look, especially as my daughter Charli was staring as our model. I also worked with Anthony Barrow; it was such fun, he truly is a creative hairdresser.
Hopefully I got my health and safety message over to you about the SPF in the MagiX Face Perfector which will save your skin from sun damage! This is so important at festivals; it is the most outdoor exposure my teenagers get all year so I want them to stay protected.
Remember what I said: festival make-up is all about going crazy with colour so make sure you get experimenting. If you’re going to any festivals this year, have fun and create your make-up look to express your personality.
Personally, I am going to Lovebox this weekend to see Grace Jones perform and I am already planning a strong look!
Take care everyone!
Jackie x
Summer is the time when you can get away with testing out new hair styles and somehow (or it feels that way) get away with it, even it doesn't look that great. The styles are endless, from tousled to the summer crop to red hair dyes and finally coming full circle to loose curls, which is always a favourite.
This week, lets look at the joys and perils of trying to create the beach-esque, tousled, loose curled look in all its glory. Now, I personally have struggled over and over again with this 'tousled' or loose curls style -- I either take it one step too far and end up looking like a poodle or, when I do get it perfect, the moment I step out of the door every curl drops out, leaving me looking as though I've just got out of bed.
So what are the best ways to avoid this hair styling mayhem?
Avon has the answer – new Lotus Shield Frizz Control promises to keep your barnett in check for three days, so when you do decide to tackle the rollers, curling irons or straighteners, you can rest assured that with a small amount of hair spray those curls will stay put.
America's Next Top Model, Jaslene tried it out and created stunning curls using Lotus Shield.
When it comes to actually trying out the look, Neil Weisberg has the answer. As the co-owner of the Neil George salon in Beverly Hills and, having worked with the likes of Heidi Klum, Jennifer Lopez and Penelope Cruz, he told the Hollywood Life blog that he is totally overqualified to teach us how to go 'tousled'.
To start with, he warned women against that reflex action of covering your head with hair spray straight after styling, in the hope that the curls stay put.
"Hair looks better when it has movement," he said. "I don't like women looking too perfect or too groomed. It's not sexy."
Mr Weisburg suggested blow drying hair with a metal brush and using curling irons to create softness, but said to leave the ends free for an "edgier look".
To finish up, he told women to twist the hair in all directions to create volume and then to tip the head upside down and coat with minimal hair products, such as a few squirts of holding spray. That all sounds so simple – let's see whether it is in reality!
How easy do you find it to create this look?
